What started as a simple search for info on a fish oil supplement that contains no cholesterol, quickly turned into looking for info on other cholesterol lowering recommendations.
All I can say (as I run screeming from the computer) is aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh!!!
I cannot believe how much information, and how many opinions are out there about what you can do, not to mention how many companies are vying for you to spend your money on their product prompted by your need for improved health.
I had to just STOP! My conclusions are thus:
(honestly I think I just needed to pep talk myself before continuing my research)
1: Although I firmly believe when you don't know something you should trust those who do know, especially is this true when it comes to your health. That being said YOU are now and will always be your best advocate.
2: Dr's although well meaning and educated on the body far more than most of us, unfortunately often times neglect to consider the very powerful and effective benefits of using natural supplements to empower your body to function at it's very best. So always remember YOU know YOUR body best, and when something doesn't feel right, KEEP ASKING and trust your instinct. If you feel that your Dr. is treating you like another medical chart, ask another Dr. (Especially when their exclusive focus seems to be on pharmaceuticals as the only solution-this does not mean ofcourse that pharmaceuticals are not sometimes absolutely necessary- is that a double negative?)
3: Just breathe, and pick one supplement at a time to focus on. Once you feel you know enough to make the best educated decision you can THEN move onto the next.
Ok I feel better now, and am ready to return to my research. (deep breath)
I just know I'm not the only one out there who has felt this way. That's why we've all spent more than we should and have to on supplements that sometimes do not give us the desired results. Take your time, this is your health, so be smart about it and don't be impulsive.
Monday update-
So I found a no cholesterol fish oil to try out temporarily made by Twinlab. So I'm taking a combination of 1,000mg of fish oil, 1000mg of flax oil, and 3mg of garlic oil 3 times a day. I'm also trying a liquid Whey that has no cholesterol and no carbs (wanted to have around for quick on the go option). I tried it yesterday for the first time at the park with kids. Mixing 1/2 the shot with a bottle of water and having some strawberries and blackberries made a very quick high carb meal for on the go. Tasted pretty good too :) Even my 3 year old loved it - kept calling it juice - Ok by me.
Many have probably seen a supplement recommended on Dr. Oz called Raspberry Ketones. I am not the type to try every new fad (well, that depends on the fad - lol) but there's just something about that Dr. Oz. So I did some research and learned that not all raspberry ketone supplements are created equal. The site I found the most helpful is also a product supplier - so I'm giving them a shot and will see if I notice any benefits. The site is www.aProvenProduct.com (If you decide to try it use this referral code ferferface@yahoo.com - in the "Referral Code" box beside your address at checkout and get $5 off!) Other supplements I have found helpful and are recommended in the Choose to Lose book are probiotics, and glucosamine and condroitin with MSM for joint comfort. My favorite supplement is a product called SuperFood. It is a green food multi-vitamin/mineral supplement. This is the only green food product I have ever taken that gives me that pep in my step and does what it says it will. A source for this is www.herbdoc.com I have yet to get my digestive enzyme, so if I find anything remarkable to share on this I'll update you later. Dependable supplements are an invaluable tool in my book, but quality is very important. So take your time when selecting one, and do a little research to educate yourself before making your final choice.
My Supplement Line Up
ONGOING ENZYME RESEARCH: I am doing some research on digestive enzymes and thought I'd post valuable info I find. Loved this demonstration of enzymes in action, fascinating {http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bL5bJbu22Jk&feature=related} I had no idea. Hope you find it just as informative.
